Home-Start is supporting Good Morning Britain through their 1 Million Minutes campaign, which will run throughout December to help those experiencing loneliness.

The campaign is asking members of the public to pledge their time to charities looking for volunteers to connect and make people feel less alone.

Home-Start supports families with young children through challenging times. Families struggling with isolation, loneliness and many other issues receive the support of trained volunteers, either individually in their own home or as part of a group, who work alongside them to give non-judgmental, compassionate and confidential support.

Last year Home-Start supported more families than ever – but they need more volunteers if they are going to be able to support all the families looking for help.

Sally Munday, Head of Volunteering at Home-Start UK, said: “We are thrilled to be one of the charities GMB has chosen to support for a third consecutive year. Loneliness is a growing issue for families with young children, which often leaves parents feeling isolated and overwhelmed. Home-Start volunteers provide a vital lifeline, offering support to families who need it most. This Campaign is an important opportunity to recruit and train the volunteers needed to help more families combat loneliness and build stronger connections within their communities.”

Alongside GMB presenters, familiar faces across ITV, celebrities and influencers will also get involved and show their support both on air, online and in person.

It has never been more important for us to talk about feeling lonely, especially following Home-Start UK’s recent survey carried out by YouGov, which highlights the scale of isolation felt by parents and carers during critical stages of their children’s development and identifies an urgent need for addressing loneliness for families across the country.

Almost 1-in-5 (18%) of parents surveyed say they rarely or never have meaningful contact with another adult outside their household, showing the extent of isolation experienced by many families, with over 4-in-5 reporting they have experienced feelings of isolation.
