Dad Matters

Subsite body text

Today is International Men’s Day - a moment to recognise the men and boys in our lives, and to reflect on what it really means to be a man in today’s world.

Hear from Dad Matters Lead, Kieran talking about what masculinity means to him.

"For me, being a dad has completely redefined my sense of masculinity. It’s not about strength in the traditional sense - it’s about care, patience, vulnerability, and showing up with love. Those moments of bedtime stories, scraped knees, and honest conversations about feelings are what make me feel most masculine.

But I also recognise that many men struggle quietly - with mental health, loneliness, or the pressure to always have it together. Talking about these issues doesn’t take away from anyone else’s struggles; it’s about building a world where everyone can be healthy, heard, and supported.

Supporting men’s wellbeing and championing equality go hand in hand. Both are rooted in empathy, equality, and the belief that everyone benefits when we break down harmful stereotypes.

So today, let’s:

- Listen and create space for honest conversations

- Support the men in our lives - friends, fathers, sons, colleagues

- Celebrate healthy, compassionate masculinity in all its forms

- Ask those men who don't often tell you how they're feeling, just how they ARE feeling

Being a dad taught me that strength isn’t about silence - it’s about care."
